About Us

History

Our family company had its early beginnings in the 1950's when Arthur Springthorpe began his career in the shearing sheds of New South Wales as a wool classer. Over the years he moved throughout the country developing his skills and establishing a firm connection with the sheepskin industry in Australia. Kangaroo Fur and Sheepskin Products Pty Ltd began in Kent St, Sydney in the early 1960's as a wholesale supplier of fur and sheepskin products. At the same time the UGG revolution had just begun with Australian Surfers.

By the 1970's UGGs were soon seen on the feet of East Coast surfers from Brisbane to Sydney and also seen throughout the West Coast. It wasn't long before some of the surfers who traded in their boards for skis in the winter discovered that their Ugg Boots were just as at home in the snowy mountains as they were in the warm sands of Sydney's Bondi Beach. It was Aussie surfers travelling the world in search of the perfect wave, who first introduced their mates in Southern California to the pleasures of the Ugg Boot. UGGs soon became a cult fashion among those L.A. surfers who could depend on a buddy 'down under' to send them a pair of boots.

And so began our expansion into manufacturing in 1974. The family continues to own and run the business and has continued to produce the highest quality Australian Made Ugg boots possible. With over 30 styles available in over 10 colours UGG since 1974 has the largest range of exclusive and designer boots in Australia. We continue to use traditional methods to handcraft our UGGs to guarantee the highest level of workmanship.

The Ugg Boot is an iconic Australian product, however sadly, approximately 90% of all Ugg Boots available worldwide are actually made in China. Always check inside your boot for a sew in label to prove that the UGGs are made in Australia. Unfortunately the swing tag is not enough as many boots are partially assembled in China but still use the Made in Australia tag.
“UGG Since 1974” is a family business and has been manufacturing Ugg Boots in Australia for over 40 years.
The success and longevity of “UGG Since 1974” is due to our demand for the best quality sheepskin, superior workmanship and guarantee of 100% Australian Made. Please visit our factory in Miami to see for yourself how UGG boots are made.

From Australia's Official Dictionary

Definition from Macquarie Dictionary:
Ugg: "A fleecy lined boot with an untanned upper".

Did you know that Australian Sheepskin Ugg Boots have always been called Ug, Ugh or Ugg Boots?
Our company has been selling and manufacturing these Ugg Boots since 1974, first in Sydney and now here on the Gold Coast.

The Original Ugg Boot

Ugg is not a brand name but an age-old generic term for this style of Australian Made sheepskin boot. In Aussie slang during the 60's and 70's Ugg was short for "ugly". However, today the  Ugg Boot is a high fashion item worn throughout the world. The softness of the Australian Merino Sheepskin produces a boot with snug, cosy, form fitting feel that's more like a sock than shoe, yet it's rugged enough for outdoor wear. The amazing fleece lining has the astonishing property of providing year-round comfort! In cold weather, the plush fleece provides an insulating layer of warmth by trapping your body heat, much like goose down does.

Today the UGG "secret" is out. You'll find these iconic boots to be in fashion on beaches from San Diego to Santa Cruz, on the streets of London to Tokyo and in ski resorts from Chamonix to Vail.

We look forward to sharing our love of the UGG with you.
